Winter hiking
Winter hiking in the picturesque village of Pettneu: a great opportunity is waiting for all guests of the Tyrolean wellness & spa resort Hotel Gridlon. Why not take the cable car at Pettneu to the Sonnenplateau high plateau at 1,400 metres above sea level. Here you will find fantastic hiking trails, some of them groomed. The inns Almfrieden and Nessleralm are picturesque hiking destinations. After your hiking tour enjoy Tyrolean specialities and the unique view of the Stanzertal valley at these cosy inns.
Additional attractive winter hiking trails can be found at the skiing resort St. Anton.
Information on the winter hiking tour and ski tour offers of the winter sports schools at Pettneu and St. Anton, led by experienced ski and mountain guides.
Further winter hiking trails
Many hiking trails originating at St. Anton in the Arlberg massif will guide you to remote, romantic places where you can breathe in the tranquillity of the Tyrolean mountain environment. The gigantic summits of the Austrian Alps are an incomparable background to the snowy winter landscape – see for yourself!
A hiking tour into the Verwalltal valley certainly counts among the highlights. The old Arlbergstraße road steeply leads to the Moserkreuz. Here you already have conquered the greatest difference in altitude of this 14 kilometre hiking tour. After a rest at the Verwall inn the romantic Verwall reservoir, embedded in the beautiful Tyrolean landscape, greets the hiker.
A special recommendation is the 20 kilometre Rosanna hiking tour. Along the banks of the Rosanna River you hike from Pettneu to Schnann and back. If it is sufficiently cold a special wonder of nature can be observed: wondrous ice formations can be seen in the mountain torrent and the ice crystals covering the alder trees sparkle in the sunlight. A wonder of nature you should not miss!
The ups and downs of the ancient Way of St. James also hold a special allure in winter. This hiking tour leads you to the St. Jakob district of St. Anton on the sunny side of the Stanzertal valley. Let your thoughts drift back to the time of pilgrims of old, while taking in impressions of this unique landscape. The round trip is seven kilometres in length but there are connections to further hiking trails.
If you would like to look down on the wintry village of St. Anton and the Stanzertal valley deeply covered in snow, take a hiking tour to the Rodelhütte chalet. At first the path runs along the old railway line to the Nassereinbahn cable car station. From there it is steadily uphill to the Nassereiner Straße road. At the natural tobogganing run there is a 200 metre altitude gain to be mastered – as a reward a fantastic view beckons. Should it take your fancy, take a toboggan back to the valley or warm yourself at the rustic Rodelhütte chalet before embarking on the 2-kilometre way back.
