The Tyrolean four-star-hotel Gridlon: run by the family for generations
Austrian hospitality: vocation and calling
Are there times you wish to be back in the happy, jaunty days of your childhood, free from all worries? That comfortable feeling of security is palpable at the Hotel Gridlon. Heartiness is more than a motto here – a family run hotel with tradition.
For several generations the Tyrolean spa resort Hotel Gridlon has been run by the Lieglein family. Experience the attentiveness and courtesy of your Austrian hosts Sigrid and Christian Lieglein, who will give their best to make your summer or winter holidays in Austria a pleasant memory for the rest of your life.
Host Christian Lieglein is the third generation of the family to run this tradition-rich 4-star-hotel in Pettneu at the Arlberg massif. Christian, who spent his childhood in picturesque Pettneu, was not able to resist the lure of the wide world after completing his apprenticeship as a cook in the parental business. He was able to hone his art at several highly-esteemed, starred restaurants and even today he delights in brandishing the cooking spoon personally at the Hotel Gridlon. His culinary career includes stays in Liechtenstein, the USA and the home of haute cuisine – la belle France. In France – in Saulieu in the region of Burgundy, to be precise – he was initiated into the high art of French master chefs by the famous chef Bernard Loiseau. After acquiring the ÖHV diploma as certified hotelier he took over the hotel business from his parents, Kurt and Christa Lieglein. Since 2002 Christian and his wife Sigrid have been responsible for running this business, steeped in tradition in beautiful Pettnau in the Arlberg - a tradition which will most likely be carried on by the next generation of Liegleins, their children Valentin and Florentina.
Hostess Sigrid Lieglein spent her childhood in the legendary Tyrolean winter sports resort Sölden. After her vocational training in tourism she gathered valuable experience abroad working as a flight attendant for Tyrolean Jet Services. After six years “high in the sky” she studied law at the Leopold-Franzens University in Innsbruck and graduated in 2003. Sigrid met Christian at a wine tasting in St. Anton at the Arlberg. After a trial period of seven years she finally decided to say goodbye to law and move into the hotel business. Together with the fourth generation of Liegleins, domestic happiness was sealed with their wedding in April 2008 in Salzburg.
Wine tasting
Every Tuesday evening you have the opportunity to experience a wine tasting with your host Christian Lieglein in the enjoyment-hotel Gridlon's own wine cellar, where you will find a wide range of quality wines, including Austrian, French and Italian products of the grape. Let the last hours of the day slip by, leisurely chatting in a dignified atmosphere.
Christmas stories
As is the custom, many stories are told around the fireplace about Mary, Joseph and the child in the cradle. A very special highlight of this peaceful time of the year can be found at the Tyrolean Hotel Gridlon as Mr Kurt Lieglein, the father of the landlord, reads the most beautiful Christmas stories and poems to the guests. Enjoy Christmas and your winter holidays skiing, cross country skiing and winter hiking in the cosy and warm atmosphere of Austrian hospitality at the Hotel Gridlon in the Arlberg massif.
A place of warmth and security
„Well-being, harmony and having time for each other“ - according to your hosts Sigrid and Christian Lieglein these are the most important foundations of the philosophy of the Austrian spa resort Hotel Gridlon. You will find a place of peace at this hotel steeped in tradition; a place to refuel your energy. Let yourself be spoilt by Austrian hospitality and unique alpine flair during your holidays. Be it summer or winter, the perfect holiday programme is waiting for children and grown-ups alike.
